Gerling Scores Two As Brave Demolish Northstars

CANBERRA – Trevor Gerling and Joseph Hughes both found the back of the net twice as the CBR Brave demolished the Newcastle Northstars 8-3 at the Phillip Swimming & Ice Skating Centre on Saturday evening.

Gerling scored his first goal at 13.26 of the first period, with Ainars Podzins getting the assist. Gerling scored his second goal, his third of the season, at 14.35 of the second period unassisted. That gives Gerling 9 points so far this year, leading the CBR Brave in points.

Hughes scored his first goal on the power play at 5.04 of the first period, with Ainars Podzins and Wehebe Darge picking up the assists. Hughes scored his second goal at 7.38 of the second period, assisted by Kai Miettinen.

Wehebe Darge scored 1 goal and 2 assists for 3 points, Ainars Podzins got 3 assists for 3 points, and James Byers got 2 assists for 2 points in the victory.

Tomas Landa scored two goals for the Northstars. His first goal at 13.47 of the second period, with Zane Jones and Robert Haselhurst picking up the assists. Landa scored his second goal at 3.23 of the second period unassisted. Zane Jones chipped in with 2 assists for 2 points in the loss.

Mat Hewitt was the winning goalie for CBR Brave, making 28 saves on 31 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.903. Dayne Davis was the losing goalie for Newcastle Northstars, making 16 saves on 20 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.800. Davis left the game at the end of the 1st period.
Charles Smart made 18 saves on 22 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.818.
