MELBOURNE – Four goals in the third period, all by different players, helped the Melbourne Mustangs beat the Melbourne Ice 5-3 at the O’Brien Group Arena on Friday evening.

Brett Ferguson scored 1 goal and 1 assist for 2 points. Ferguson’s goal started the Mustangs’ offense, scored at 3:04 of the second period unassisted. Ferguson now has 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points this season.

Former Melbourne Ice player Andrew Erzen got 2 assists for 2 points In his first game for his new team. Bradley Apps scored the game winning goal, his first of the season, at 9.11 of the 3rd, assisted by Jackson McCoy.

Devon Krogh scored his first goal for the Ice at 3.43 of the first period, with Nate Fleming and Dillon Lawrence picking up the assists. Krogh’s second goal came at 10.21 of the second period, with Dillon Lawrence and Dylan Anderson picking up the assists. Matt Armstrong, in his 200th AIHL game, scored the other Melbourne Ice goal at 9.17 of the second period, assisted by Chris Wong and Jack Carpenter.

Petri Pitkänen was the winning goalie for Melbourne Mustangs, making 29 saves on 32 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.906. Michael James was the losing goalie for Melbourne Ice, making 25 saves on 30 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.833. James left the game at 18:23 of the 3rd period, but the Ice were unable to take advantage with the extra attacker.
