
MELBOURNE – Etienne du Toit and Michael Burns scored a goal apiece as the Sydney Bears defeated the Melbourne Mustangs 3-2 in a shootout at the O’Brien Group Arena on Saturday evening.
du Toit scored his goal at 7.25 of the second period, assisted by Vladimir Rubes and Jeremy Brücker. Burns’ goal was scored unassisted at 7.59 of the third period on the power play. The Bears were on a power play due to Paul Lazzarotto being called for holding at 8.25 of the third period.
Patrick O’Kane and Troy Robertson scored the Mustangs’ goals.
Anthony Kimlin got the win for the Bears, making 28 saves on 30 shots for a save percentage of 0.933. Petri Pitkänen took the loss for the Mustangs, making 30 saves on 32 shots for a save percentage of 0.938.
