Cox’s Two Help Thunder Defeat Ice

PERTH – Andrew Cox found the back of the net twice and Pier-Olivier Grandmaison tallied five points as the Perth Thunder won over the Melbourne Ice 7-4 at the Perth Ice Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The first goal for Cox was scored at 13:33 of the first period, with Tomek Sak and Jordan Kyros picking up the assists. Cox scored his second goal at 5:45 of the second period, with Jonathon Bremner getting the assist.

Grandmaison and Benjamin Breault scored one goal and four assists for five points each.

David Kudla scored the game winning goal at 4:30 of the 2nd, assisted by Grandmaison and Breault.

Dylan Anderson’s first goal for the Ice, a short handed goal, was scored at 6:35 of the first period, with Devon Krogh and Dillon Lawrence picking up the assists. Anderson scored his second goal at 10:38 of the third period, with Thomas Powell and Matt Armstrong picking up the assists.

Nate Fleming scored one goal and one assist for two points. Dillon Lawrence and Jeremy Chai got two assists for two points each.

There were 5 penalties at 4:49 of the 3rd period, resulting in 52 minutes of penalties. Alastair Punler and Chai got Game Misconduct penalties. Chai picked up a five minute major for roughing, while Punler got a five minute major for boarding (for the original hit on Nate Fleming) and a two minute penalty for roughing. The Ice were unable to score on the resulting power play.

Peter Di Salvo was the winning goalie for Perth Thunder, making 33 saves on 37 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.892. James Downie was the losing goalie for Melbourne Ice, making 17 saves on 22 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.773. Downie left the game at the end of the second period.
Jaden Pine-Murphy was the backup goalie for Melbourne Ice, making 10 saves on 12 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.833. Pine-Murphy joined the game at the start of the 3rd period.
