
MELBOURNE – Trevor Gerling scored the game winning goal in overtime and Wehebe Darge earned three points as the CBR Brave defeated the Sydney Bears 4-3 in the 2018 AIHL Grand Final at the O’Brien Group Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Trevor Gerling scored the game winning goal at 8:21 of overtime after the third period finished 3-3, assisted by Wehebe Darge.
Tyler Kubara opened the scoring at 9:52 of the first period, assisted by Mitch Henning and Kai Miettinen. Joseph Hughes scored a power play goal at 5:03, assisted by Wehebe Darge, to take a 2-0 lead into the first break.
At 9:59 of the second period, Michael Schlamp scored a power play goal for the Bears, assisted by Graeme Strukoff and Ryan Lough. Tyerell Clare tied the game at 6:10 of the second period, assisted by Etienne du Toit and Lough. The Bears took the lead at 1:12 in the second period, on a goal by Lough, assisted by Charles Adams and Brian Funes.
Chris Leveille tied the game again at 14:51 of the third period, assisted by Darge and Channing Bresciani.
Matt Hewitt was the winning goalie for CBR Brave, making 34 saves on 37 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.919. Anthony Kimlin was the losing goalie for Sydney Bears, making 33 saves on 37 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.892.
