
PERTH – Rob Haselhurst scored the only goal of the game in the fifth round of the shootout to secure a 1-0 win for the Perth Thunder over the Melbourne Mustangs in Perth on Sunday afternoon.
At 5:14 of the first period, Louick Marcotte was ejected from the game. He was assessed a five minute major for spearing, and a Game Misconduct. Keven Veilleux was assessed a slashing penalty at the same time.
After a scoreless three periods, the AIHL saw its first overtime period. Neither team was able to score the “golden goal”, so the game headed to a shootout.
Nico Viksten was the winning goalie for Perth Thunder, making 43 saves on 43 shots, for a Save Percentage of 1.000. Jaden Pine-Murphy was the losing goalie for Melbourne Mustangs, making 23 saves on 23 shots, for a Save Percentage of 1.000.
