Steven Scores Hat Trick As Bears Win Over Mustangs

SYDNEY – A hat trick to Thomas Steven and Jan Koubek scored two goals as the Sydney Bears defeated the Melbourne Mustangs 5-4 at the Macquarie Ice Rink on Saturday evening.

Steven’s first goal came at 13:23 of the first period, with Timothy Newmark and Jeremy Brücker picking up the assists. The second goal for Steven was scored at 8:52 of the first period, with Jeremy Brücker and Ryan Annesley picking up the assists. Steven scored his third goal at 14:56 of the third period, with Jeremy Brücker and Timothy Newmark picking up the assists.

The first goal for Koubek, a power play goal, was scored at 10:22 of the third period, with Danick Gauthier and Michael Schlamp picking up the assists. Koubek’s second goal, the game winning goal, came at 0:30 of the third period, with Danick Gauthier getting the assist.

Jeremy Brücker got three assists for three points, while Timothy Newmark and Danick Gauthier got two assists for two points each.

New Mustangs import Jordan Owens scored a power play goal at 5:00 of the first period, with Vadim Virjassov and Parker Thomas picking up the assists. Owens scored his second goal at 11:12 of the second period, with Matt Anderson getting the assist.

Christian Isackson scored one goal and one assist for two points, and Vadim Virjassov got two assists for two points.

Anthony Kimlin was the winning goalie for Sydney Bears, making 37 saves on 41 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.902. Jaden Pine-Murphy was the losing goalie for Melbourne Mustangs, making 22 saves on 27 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.815.
