Banga Gets Four Points As Northstars Beat Ice

MELBOURNE – Sammy Banga scored four points and a goal to Ondrej Smach saw the Newcastle Northstars defeat the Melbourne Ice 6-4 at the O’Brien Icehouse on Sunday afternoon.

Sammy Banga scored at 12:57 of the third period, assisted by Francis Drolet and Ondrej Smach. Banga also picked up three assists for four points on the game.

Ondrej Smach scored the game winning goal at 0:48 of the 3rd, assisted by Tomas Landa and Sammy Banga.

Francis Drolet and Tomas Landa scored one goal and two assists each for three points.

JM Piotrowski scored his first goal for the Ice at 14:13 of the second period, with Lliam Webster and Jack Carpenter picking up the assists. Piotrowski scored his second goal, a power play goal, at 15:36 of the third period, with Lliam Webster and Paul Lazzarotto picking up the assists.

Lliam Webster got three assists for three points for the Ice, and Paul Lazzarotto scored one goal and one assist for two points.

Charles Smart was the winning goalie for Newcastle Northstars, making 20 saves on 24 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.833. Sebastian Andersson was the losing goalie for Melbourne Ice, making 23 saves on 28 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.821. Andersson left the game with 45 second of the 3rd period to go. It backfired, as Tomas Landa scored an empty net goal at 0:23 of the 3rd period, assisted by Francis Drolet and Robert Malloy.
