
MELBOURNE – Francis Drolet scored three points and Trey Phillips scored the game-winning goal as the Newcastle Northstars beat the Melbourne Mustangs 4-1 at the O’Brien Icehouse on Sunday afternoon.
Francis Drolet scored an empty-net goal at 0:56 of the third period, assisted by Sammy Banga. Drolet also scored two assists for three points.
Trey Phillips scored the game winning goal at 11:14 of the 2nd, assisted by Francis Drolet and Richard Tesarik. Phillips also picked up an assist during the game.
Hamish Powell and Shane Southwood also scored for the Northstars. Richard Tesarik and Sammy Banga got two assists for two points.
Michael McMahon scored the lone Mustangs goal, assisted by Brendan McDowell.
Charlie Smart was the winning goalie for Newcastle Northstars, making 31 saves on 32 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.969. Kevin Nastiuk was the losing goalie for Melbourne Mustangs, making 18 saves on 22 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.818.
