Owens Scores Two As Mustangs Defeat Bears

SYDNEY – Jordan Owens found the back of the net twice and two points to Jamie Bourke helped the Melbourne Mustangs beat the Sydney Bears 4-1 at the Macquarie Ice Rink on Saturday evening.

Owens’ first goal, a power play goal, came at 4:06 of the first period, with Christian Isackson and Jamie Bourke picking up the assists. The second goal for Owens was scored at 3:01 of the third period, with Christian Isackson and Vadim Virjassov picking up the assists.

Jamie Bourke scored one goal and one assist for two points, while Christian Isackson got two assists for two points.

Jeremy Brücker scored the lone Bears goal at 2:23 of the second period.  The power play goal was assisted by Brian Funes and Timothy Newmark.

Kevin Nastiuk was the winning goalie for Melbourne Mustangs, making 19 saves on 20 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.950.  Anthony Kimlin was the losing goalie for Sydney Bears, making 22 saves on 25 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.880. Kimlin left the game at 19:04 of the third period for an extra attacker. It backfired, as Jamie Bourke scored an empty net goal at 0:56 of the third period.
