MELBOURNE – Mitchell Humphries scored a hat trick and five points to Matt Armstrong helped the Melbourne Mustangs defeat the Sydney Ice Dogs 6-4 at the O’Brien Icehouse on Sunday afternoon.

Humphries scored his first goal at 2:09 of the first period, with Matt Armstrong and Ty Wishart picking up the assists. Humphries’ second goal came at 0:28 of the first period, with Ty Wishart and Matt Armstrong picking up the assists. The third goal for Humphries, a power play goal that became the game winner, was scored at 19:19 of the second period, with Matt Armstrong and Scott Timmins picking up the assists.

Armstrong scored his first goal, a power play goal, at 13:38 of the first period, with Scott Timmins and Ty Wishart picking up the assists. Armstrong scored his second goal, a power play goal, at 10:30 of the first period, with Scott Timmins and Mitchell Humphries picking up the assists.  Armstrong also three assists for five points.

Scott Timmins and Ty Wishart got four assists for four points each.

Strat Allen scored one goal and two assists for three points for the Ice Dogs.

Grant Toulmin scored one goal and one assist for two points, and Daniel Pataky got two assists for two points.

There were 4 penalties at 5:14 of the 2nd period, resulting in 50 minutes of penalties. Vadim Virjassov for the Mustangs and Shannon McGregor for the Ice Dogs each got fighting and  game misconduct penalties.

Sebastian Woodlands was the winning goalie for Melbourne Mustangs, making 27 saves on 31 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.871.  Jakob Doornbos was the losing goalie for Sydney Ice Dogs, making 54 saves on 60 shots, for a Save Percentage of 0.900.
